Powergen site redevelopment begins
Commencement of site clearance, demolition and enabling works shall shortly be underway on the former Powergen site in Shirley. The redevelopment of the site, which has been vacant for over 20 years and has become an increasingly derelict eyesore, shall complete the regeneration and transformation of this part of Shirley.
Tyler Parkes secured the planning permission for the redevelopment in June 2016. The scheme comprises a high-quality landmark development at this important gateway to Solihull borough. The proposed ExtraCare Retirement Village will comprise 261 units by ExtraCare Charitable Trust. In addition, 113 dwellings will be erected, comprising a mix of traditional houses and apartments by Lioncourt Homes Ltd. A petrol filling station by ASDA will also be provided, as well as associated landscaping, on-site roads, car parking and off-site highway works.
Presently, tree surgeons are on site removing the remaining trees and undergrowth in accordance with the planning permission. The main demolition and enabling works are scheduled to be completed this summer, and shall enable the ExtraCare Retirement Village and ASDA petrol filling station works to commence, including the development of the new ‘spine’ road. Lioncourt Homes Ltd also plans to shortly commence their phase one residential development
