Planning fees to rise by 20% this month

TP Editorial Team

An increase in planning application fees in England will come into effect on 17th January 2018. Regulations to introduce the 20% increase in fees were made on 20th December 2017 and mean that local planning authorities will be able to start applying the fee increase later this month.

The regulations also include the introduction of fees for applications necessary where a permitted development right has been removed as well as a new fee of £96 for prior approval applications for a range of permitted development rights introduced in April 2015 and April 2017.

If you are proposing to submit a planning application in the near future and wish to benefit from the existing fee structure, you will need to submit a valid application to the relevant council, accompanied by the currently correct fee, before the new fees come into effect. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you require further details.
