Cash Boost for Housing Delivery in West Midlands

In his Spring Statement on 13th March, Chancellor Philip Hammond announced that the government has pledged a £100 million grant from the Land Remediation Fund in the West Midlands to help to buy land and prepare it for housing development as well as increasing density.

Land acquisition will be focused on the Walsall to Wolverhampton corridor, to deliver at least 8,000 homes. The West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) has committed to building 215,000 homes by 2030/2031, backed by the Mayor’s commitment to increase delivery to nearly 16,000 homes a year and ensure that all local authorities in the area have local plans in place by the end of 2019.

The WMCA comprises 18 local authorities, including Birmingham City Council and four Local Enterprise Partnerships (LEPs) including Greater Birmingham & Solihull LEP.
