Outline Permission for 10 New Houses in Selly Oak

John Baggott

We have secured outline planning permission from Birmingham City Council for the demolition of a former Ex-Servicemen’s Social Club and erection of 10 terraced dwellings.

The site, located within a predominantly residential area of the City in close proximity to the main campus of the City of Birmingham University, features the existing single storey former Social Club building. It has significant level changes towards the rear of the site, which brought with it some challenges in terms of layout and drainage solutions.

In designing the proposal, our architectural team delivered an update on the traditional terraced dwellings evident within the wider area, whilst at the same time turning the challenges of the levels into a positive in delivering a flexible internal layout for the properties. The proposed facing materials are of a traditional brick/render and roof tiling finish, assimilating the development into its surroundings.

Throughout we worked proactively with the Council’s Planning Officers on the finer points of the scheme, and through positive dialogue and engagement identified a drainage design solution which satisfied the requirements of the Lead Local Flood Authority (LLFA).
