Empty Listed Building Revived as Hair Studio

Seb Kouyoumjian

Tyler Parkes has recently completed the renovation and extension of a Listed Building on High Street, Henley-in-Arden, Warwickshire. When our hair and beauty salon client, Aesthetics, bought the building, it was too small and in poor condition. Added to that, being a Grade II Listed Building dating from the 19th century, any proposed changes to it would be closely scrutinized by the local council and their conservation team.

Knowing the building had been subjected to a series of low-quality extensions, we approached the council with a proposal which would replace them with one much larger, high-quality extension.

Working closely with Aesthetics, we came up with a design which suited their business needs, as well as the council’s conservation requirements. This included drawing large scale details of the building, with particular attention given to the replacement shop front’s joinery. For the rear extension, we took a simple, contemporary approach, using several three-metre-long roof lights to bring daylight into the otherwise gloomy building.

Aesthetics officially opened this, their second salon (the first being in Solihull), just before the new year. We wish them every success, and are happy to report they are as pleased with the outcome as we are.
