Increased Planning Fees Update

John Baggott

We previously reported on 1st August 2023 (please see our website "Latest News" section) that proposals to introduce a national planning fee increase of 35% for major applications and 25% for all other applications, along with other proposals including the removal of the so-called "free-go" for repeat applications, had been laid in Parliament before the Summer recess.

The "Planning" journal's daily bulletin has today (28th September 2023) reported that the Department of Levelling Up, Housing and Communities has indicated that, subject to Parliamentary approval, it is expected that the fee increase will come into force before the end of the year, although no specific date has been identified. We will continue to monitor the situation and provide a further update once any further announcement regarding the planning fee increases is made.
