Permission in Principle (PiP) Changes Abandoned for Now

Helen Winkler

Proposals to expand the permission in principle (PiP) regime, set out in the August 2020 ‘Changes to the Current Planning System’ consultation document, have been shelved for now. The Ministry of Housing (MHCLG) had proposed raising the PiP threshold for applications of 10 homes or less up to developments of 150 homes. The issue may be reconsidered as part of the forthcoming more extensive reforms to the planning system heralded in the White Paper last year. A full response to the White Paper consultation is expected to be published by the Government in the spring.
