Shepherds’ Huts Permission in the Cotswolds

Glenda Parkes

Tyler Parkes is delighted to have secured planning permission on behalf of our Client, Farncombe Estates, for the siting of five additional freestanding guest accommodation units within the grounds of the Fish Hotel. The Hotel lies within the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) on the hillside outside the beautiful Cotswold villages of Broadway and Willersey. We worked alongside the architects for the project, Arb Architecture, based in Broadway, who prepared the detailed drawings for the project. The units are designed to resemble Shepherds’ Huts, and each will contain a bedroom, bathroom and siting room, located within a woodland setting.

The most recent consent follows the successful securing of permission for five existing units that have proved extremely popular with guests. The new huts will be sited in the same vicinity so that guests can enjoy the wooded setting whilst also taking advantage of the excellent restaurant facilities at The Fish, and the extensive estate with its woodland and open countryside walks.

The issues to be addressed in the application included the siting of the units within the AONB and the associated impact considerations around trees, ecology and light pollution. We worked closely with Cotswold District Council on the proposal and permission was granted in January 2021.
