We recently published an article advising that The Government’s Inspectors had written to Solihull Council on 4th September 2024 recommending that they withdraw their emerging Local Plan, due to a significant shortfall in the housing land supply for the borough.

Having now fully considered the Inspectors’ recommendation, a report is to be considered by Solihull’s Full Council at their meeting on 8th October 2024, with Officers recommending that the Local Plan be formally withdrawn and that preparatory work, including an updated evidence base and a new call-for-sites exercise required for the production of a new Local Plan commence immediately.

This is a somewhat disappointing outcome for all concerned, but with the advent of the preparation of a new Local Plan in due course, there will be a new opportunity to promote suitable sites to meet the Council’s Housing Supply Needs for the new plan period, via the call-for-sites. Whilst that exercise has not yet commenced, if you do have sites that you would wish to promote for the provision of new homes in Solihull, please contact our Planning Policy Team on 0121 744 5511, who would be happy to discuss further.
