Solihull – Inspectors Conclude Local Plan should be withdrawn.
The Government’s Inspectors have recommended to Solihull Council that they withdraw their emerging Local Plan. The Local Plan has been in preparation for a number of years and an Examination into it was paused in March 2023 at the Council’s request in order for the implications of the last Government’s revisions to the National Planning Policy Framework be taken into account (published in December 2023).
The Inspectors are clear in their letter dated 4th September 2024 that they believe that there will be a significant shortfall in the housing land supply for the borough and therefore more land will need to be found to satisfy this shortfall; this is despite the Council’s response to the Inspectors setting out an improved land supply position, and other potential revisions to the plan to enable it to be found sound. The Inspectors also believe that the contribution of 2,000 homes in Solihull to help meet the needs of areas outside Solihull is a fundamental element of the plan that should be delivered by 2031.
In response, on 6th September when the Inspectors’ letter was published on their website, the Council stated that it raises may implications and they need to work through them.
