Student Apartments Approved in Selly Oak

John Baggott

We are very pleased to have secured full planning permission on behalf of our Client, Madison Construction Ltd, for the erection of new purpose-built student accommodation development in the Selly Oak area of Birmingham, on the site of a former social club and car park. The site lies near to the entrance of the main campus of the University of Birmingham.

Tyler Parkes has taken the lead on all planning and architectural matters in respect of the application. The development is of a contemporary design, standing 3 storeys in height along the street frontage, with 5 storeys at the rear to take advantage of the significant difference in ground levels. A total of 182 bedrooms will be provided, being a mixture of self-contained studio apartments and cluster apartments which feature shared kitchen and lounge facilities. A range of communal facilities are also included within the building including a gym and laundry. A large communal landscaped garden is also provided.

We successfully presented the case for this high-quality development in this sustainable location, close to the University, and the application was approved by the City Council’s Planning Committee on 9th December 2021.
