Tyler Parkes Delivers HTM's New HQ
We are really proud to announce the completion of Highways Traffic Management Ltd.'s new headquarters on Tyburn Road, Birmingham.
The project sees the conversion of a long-vacant and poorly-maintained car showroom into a bright, open office. The works involved fully insulating the building, replacing all the external glazing, and the creation of a completely new internal layout with full lighting and climate control. Aside from the open plan office space with meeting spaces, HTM's staff will be able to enjoy a gym with shower room, fully-enclosed private WC cubicles, a large kitchenette, and focus rooms for concentration and private conversations.
The new HQ includes some subtle but effective design features. Exposed woodwool ceilings, which give an industrial look (one of HTM's key design ambitions), also act as dense acoustic absorption panels to counteract the higher noise levels from open plan working, as well as providing acoustic insulation from a nearby motorway flyover. The exposed wiring and ventilation pipework overhead makes maintenance and new installations easy. Three new glass rooflights bring daylight directly into the middle of the floor plan, but are triple-glazed to reduce the risk of overheating.
Tyler Parkes was instrumental in delivering the new HQ. We acted as lead consultant, taking the project from the initial discussions with HTM about their ambitions, through to completion and handover. We took the proposals through the planning process using our in-house planning consultants, designed the interiors (down to the wheelchair accessible reception desk) and prepared detailed construction drawings, as well as coordinated with the wider consultant team. We have really enjoyed working with this consultant team and wish HTM the best for the future!
